Hike the Inner Caves of Puerto Rico

Explore the geological wonders of Puerto Rico on this hiking tour of the north coast’s caves and rock formations!

Thirty-five percent of Puerto Rico’s topography is made up of limestone rock that was once a part of the ocean floor. This undulating terrain is still the least impacted by human development, less so than our mountainous interior (coffee) and coastal plains (sugarcane).

The interaction of plate tectonics, volcanos, and trade winds provided newly formed rivers that would eventually find their way to the sea. Thus a vast network of caves and caverns was carved out eons ago in this region. Explore Window Cave and Indian Cave. Both are of moderate difficulty to climb; young children may find this difficult.

First, we guide you on an eco-walk/climb through caverns and caves as you learn how these natural structures first came about. Then, you have a chance to walk onto various rock formations surrounding the beautiful Puerto Rican coastline. Although direct interactions with the petroglyphs are not available, the scenery is simply spectacular. You have some of the best vistas on the entire island and can take in the beauty of the mighty Atlantic Ocean.

Bonus: There are actual arches to be found as you explore.

We finish our tour with sumptuous food at a Criollo place locals love. Vegetarian and vegan options are available. We return around 2:30 p.m.
